To mark the beginning of the new year, the public is invited to the exhibition-event Chantal duPont \u2013 corps-m\u00e9moire, une conversation<\/b>, presented at the Agora Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec of the Coeur des sciences de l\u2019UQAM.<\/p>\n
Chantal duPont \u2013 corps-m\u00e9moire, une conversation<\/b> promises an encounter with pieces representative of the entire body of work by a defining figure in the history of video and media arts in Qu\u00e9bec and the rest of Canada, a pioneer in her practice and in the teaching of media arts and digital arts.<\/p>\n
During a span of nearly five years prior to this monographic exhibition, the artist has created new works in response to uncommon creative ferment and urgency. Showing sensitivity to the passage of time and to the impact of remembered images on her own memories and experiences, mindful of the plasticity of her images, whether photographed, recorded on video, captured on Super 8 or 16 mm film or reconstructed, Chantal duPont has mapped out a complex web of correspondences among the works gathered here<\/p>\n
The exhibition has been designed as an intimate experience, inviting exploration and appreciation of the artist\u2019s works, much like a visit to a studio. The result of extended exchanges between duPont and curator Nicole Gingras, it will unfold as a conversation over one week. Throughout the exhibition-event, a series of guests\u2014including artists and authors\u2014will join their voices to that of the artist, commenting on a specific work or an aspect of her oeuvre, sharing a memory. The detailed program of these gatherings will be provided in a later press release.<\/p>\n
More than 40 years after she first began exploring the photographic and the moving image, Chantal duPont remains a vital force on the media arts and digital arts landscape in Montr\u00e9al, Qu\u00e9bec and Canada.<\/p>\n
This exhibition is made possible thanks to support from Hexagram-UQAM, the Fonds pour les infrastructures d\u00e9partementales de recherche et de cr\u00e9ation (FIDR), and the UQAM School of Visual and Media Arts, as well as a generous contribution from a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous.<\/p>\n
